New York, New York

I have to admit I totally could live in New York. Not forever, just for a few months or a year or something - I just love it! I grew up going a lot with my mom and fell in love with just about everything. So when I was interviewing for this job about two years ago and they asked me how I felt about having to possibly go there every year for business I thought I had died and gone to heaven. So now every spring break I take 15-20 students to the city and meet with designers, showrooms, trend forecasters, etc. and am just fine with "having to" (hah!).

First night at ESPN Zone!
(sorry it's a little blurry, I left my good camera at home)

The fun part is Jared gets to come too. Although it seemed funny that I was waking up at 8am to go to meetings and he got to sleep in and shop all day (I think the guys at the NBA store knew him by name at the end of the week). We had such a great time - we went to Bryant Park where New York Fashion week just ended, walked around Soho for a while, shopped pretty much all over (I have the best husband in the world, love you babe!) and ate at ESPN Zone not once but twice!

Bryant Park

These little dogs were waiting on their owner outside of Starbucks - so cute!!

Reading brail.
(Sometimes I like to pretend that I'm blind. This time I think my glasses gave it away...)

Little boutique in Soho that I love!

Oh and we got to meet with Tommy Hilfiger at their corporate office! He was so nice.

Last night at ESPN Zone in Times Square, Jared couldn't get enough!

Like a kid in a candy store...

Counting down to next year's trip already.

I just love how everything is right at your fingertips and you can walk just about anywhere. It's like home away from home. But it was good to come home to warmer weather, and I did miss my cold-hearted-love-withholding-catdog Chauncey.

Oh baby

One of my friends, Holly, just had a baby three weeks ago and she is the cutest thing! Her name is London - LOVE that name for a girl - and her older brother and sister call her baby Lo. It is so cute. I went over earlier in the week to do some pictures and just wanted to eat her up.

I was nervous to see how the pictures turned out because it was my first time to photograph a newborn, but luckily she is very photogenic and it made up for my lack of expertise. I just want to squeeze her!

No Love

We're back! I'll have an update on our spring break happenings later this week with pictures and what not but we had such a great time! New York was amazing (minus the most near death experience I've ever had, I'll explain later) and we had great weather. Then we hung out in Houston for a few days that was awesome as well.

We had to leave Chauncey home by himself all week while we were gone so we put him upstairs for the week and had friends check on him (thanks friends!). Chauncey has a history of getting an attitude when he's left alone for too long and when that happens he usually rebells in some kind of non-litterbox-using way. So we have to confine him to a certain area while he's left alone or he just goes nuts.

He also hates my guts. He absolutely can't get enough of Jared, but will have nothing to do with me. This is par for the course I guess, I wanted a kitten so bad so I could teach it to be cuddly and sit in my lap which Chauncey totally did when we first got him. Boy was I fooled. It wasn't two weeks later that he morphed into a total spaz cat that hates being around people, and heaven forbid if anyone wants to pet him - he's just not having it.

But I think while were were gone he figured out that I'm the one that wanted him in the first place, I clean his litter box, I feed him - he should love me dangit! I don't know if this change of heart will last but I hope it does, I don't know if I can take too much more rejection!

Taking a breaky break

This week has been CRAZY BUSY! I honestly have not had one minute to even think about doing a blog post since last weekend, sadness. And I'm leaving for New York tomorrow on a business trip so it will be another week of post-less-ness, but I promise there will be good stuff going up when I get back!

Speaking of good stuff did you SEE the Project Runway finale?! I've been on "Team Fierce" all along so I actually screamed when Christian won, love it!

And how about American Idol, anyone watching? I admit I have never really gotten into it but for some reason this season has me hooked. I don't know if Paula is on crack or just plain crazy but it's really annoying.

Last but not least (I promise I don't sit in front of the TV 24/7 even though it really sounds like it right now, thank goodness for DVR) I am thoroughly addicted to America's Best Dance Crew on MTV - and so is Jared! That's the best part - we have all of our friends hooked on it too and we get together every Thursday night to watch it (and then replay it again immediately after it ends). It really is amazing how good these people are, and that Mario Lopez is still employed.

Have a good spring break peeps, see you in a week!

Hallelujah...

...it's the weekend. I don't know about you but this week lasted foorrrreeeevvveerrrr. Maybe since it's leap year or something. Anyway! We're headed out to Dallas this afternoon with Riss and Ryan to go to the Mavericks game, yea!!! Jared is excited beyond belief, he wanted to make Mavericks shirts for all of us to wear tonight. Bet you didn't know about his crazy bootleg shirt-making skills, did you. That's a whole other post all together.

Lately I've been really obsessing over several creative outlets that I like/want to learn - namely embroidery, re-upholstery, more embroidery, photography (as always) and photoshop/aperture. Here are a few things I'm thinking about doing someday soon.

1. Making a new headboard for our bed. There's so many things you can do with an old one, a little bit of fabric and a staple gun. I just have to find the right old one, for like five dollars.

I love this one.

2. I love any kind of message board. They also are super easy to make and personalize. This one is from Martha.

3. I'm trying to teach myself embroidery. This pillow from Pottery Barn is my inspiration I've decided, and all the ones at Anthropologie that cost a million dollars.

Ode to Wellies

Wellies, galoshes, rainboots ... call them whatever you like, I love them all. I got a pair last year before going to New York because it was supposed to rain the whole time (it didn't), so I lugged them all the way there and all the way back and then stuck them in the back of my closet. They are really really cute (black outside, pink inside) but I could only wear them when it rained so it made me kind of sad.

Then one clear sunny day I decided that if I wanted to wear rainboots, I was going to wear rainboots. So I did, and have worn them whenever I feel like it ever since!! I'm very happy with this decision. The bonus is that if it is rainy or wet outside you can channel your inner five year-old self and splash in every puddle from the parking lot to Target if you want to (I happened to do this from time to time and I highly recommend it). So feast your eyes on these little lovlies (all from Target), and feel free to wear them whenever you so please.

It's official...

Jared's going to CHICAGO!!! He's been interviewing for a corporate internship position at the OfficeMax headquarters, which are in Chicago, and it's finally official! It's a nine week program in marketing and merchandising and he starts June 16. It stinks that I won't be able to go with him (since having an income is kind of essential for surviving the year and a half of school he has left) but we both agree that nine weeks is a small sacrifice to make compared to the impact it will have on the future. I'm SO proud of him!!

Tag, you're it

I've been tagged by Meg so here goes!

Six non-important/unusual things about myself:

1. My family does not call me Tyan, they call me Ty. (my parents and grandparents call me Typoo ... still) But if anyone else called me Ty it would be weird, I don't know why.

2. I'm lactose intolerant. Not fun. Hate it. Soy ice cream is gross.

3. I believe in shopping karma. If something falls off the hanger after I walk by the rack I always put it back. Shopping cart at H-E-B - always back with the other carts in the designated parking lot row. So maybe when I fall in love with a dress and there's only two left on the rack...one of them will be my size. Shopping karma.

4. I have voicemail phobia. I hate checking it, for some reason I always feel like I'm in trouble or something.

5. I love big dogs, BIG. Someday I want to have a great dane, alaskan malamute (siberian husky/great pyrenees mix), and a blonde golden retriever.

6. Tyan - not such a common name. The story is that my mom had a good friend named Ty Anne and liked the way it sounded. If it were spelled Tyanne or Tyann maybe people would pronounce it right - I get Diane, Ryan, Pam, "Tea-an" - but it doesn't really bother me. Now with the last name Jacox people are thoroughly confused. Maybe I should be Tyann Jaycox ... nah.

The rules:
1) Link to the person that tagged you.
2) Post the rules on your blog.
3) Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself.
4) Tag at least three people at the end of your post and link to their blogs.
5) Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
6) Let the fun begin!

I tag Megan, Marissa and Holly.

Plasma Car Racing

Never heard of it? It's because it's pretty much an underground thing. It all started when my mom bought some little plastic "plasma cars" for our younger cousins to ride around the house at Thanksgiving, and ended with the sight of my dad's white suit shirt dissappearing into the night after we talked him into riding one down the driveway.

My parents house is on top of a hill and has a long winding driveway so you can actually get going really fast, scary fast I'd say. Which presents the obvious question - how do you stop before flying across the road and into the ditch on the other side? My mom figured this out the hard way by putting her feet down and burning holes clear through her socks and one heel (ouch). So now we're sure to wear thick soled shoes, or run into the grass if all else fails. Needless to say, now everyone who comes to the Murray house has to experience plasma car racing in all its glory. It gets pretty intense.

Yes, they're very tiny, but it just makes them more aerodynamic.

Marissa and Melissa sporting the pink cars. Mocha is sad that she exceeds the weight limit for racing, and lacks opposable thumbs.

Headlamps have revolutionized night racing.

I love Marissa's pose here - "Think you're tough guys? I can hold this car with my pinky."

Race time. It's getting serious.

New Look

Marissa and I decided to go for it last weekend and chop all our hair off! Marissa had been growing hers out for a while and I have had long hair for the past eight years or so - time for a change! Suprisingly it wasn't that hard to say goodbye to it. Both of us pretty much love it and I think our husbands do too. What do you think?
