Dear H-E-B,

I love you.

For everyone that lives outside of Texas I'm sorry that you can't experience the amazing-ness that is H-E-B. It's a good reason, among many others, to move here! When we moved to Houston three weeks ago and were driving around trying to find our way around we passed this beautiful new H-E-B (in the picture). It's not the closest grocery store to us, I actually pass a Kroger and Super Target on the way, but it is SO worth it to drive the extra bit.

Not all H-E-B's are the same, they just started building these new Central Market style ones that are seriously beautiful. They have the best produce, amazing meat and cheese departments, and pretty much anything else you could ever want. Some of our favorite recipes have come from their cooking stations they have throughout the store. Love it!!

But the best part of H-E-B really isn't the selection, the awesome layout, or the freshness of everything - it's the people. When I went today I was really blown away by how nice everyone was, just plain nice! The guys stocking the fruit were happy and smiling, the meat counter guy was friendly and helpful, and the checkers asked me at least three times if they could take my groceries out to the car. (I don't think it's because I'm huge pregnant or anything :)

I don't say any of this to try and change where you grocery shop or rub it in your face if you don't have an H-E-B, when I left there today I was just overwhelmingly thankful for the little things like nice people. It's sounds so silly. But with moving to a new city, a much much bigger city, going from working or being in school full time for the past nine years to being a stay at home soon-to-be mom, missing family and friends, and feeling a little overwhelmed in general it's just really nice to go somewhere that feels like home, where you always know what to expect, and where people are nice to you for no reason - even if it is a little out of the way.

I completely understand. When we first moved to Dallas I searched for a grocery store since there wasn't an HEB, but was always unsatisfied. Then, we found Central Market and I was in love! Refuse to go anywhere else. It's totally out of the way from the house (and the old condo) but I don't care - totally worth it to me. All this rambling is to say that I love that you wrote a post of love for HEB because I feel the same way. And I can confirm you statement that it's totally worth moving to Texas for.

I miss HEB!! I am pushing Bruce to go to school in Texas not only because my parents are there, but because of people like the ones that work at HEB!

Thanks a lot Tyan! I just managed to get HEB out of my mind, and now I'm once again mourning the loss of it in my life! :)

I CAN NOT even BEGIN to tell you how much I MISS my HEB PLUS!!!!! It was only 7 short minutes away! Now I am lucky if I can get a piece of fruit that doesn't spoil in 2 days!!!

I totally agree!!!! I cannot begin to tell you how much I miss HEB here in Dallas. We have Central Market, which is great but kinda pricey. Every time we go to my parents in Austin I always want to go to HEB bc I miss it so much! It litterally makes me happy to just be inside the store! I cannot wait for the day they decide to take over Dallas too!!

I do like HEB as well! and this one looks like a schmancy one! I always appreciate when people are nice and happy. There is nothing like a crabby person who is working the checkout. I had one lovely worker who couldn't even say Hi to Caleb---who said hi about 10 times, and then asked me why she wasn't saying anything back! yes true story. So I really need an HEB :) Hope you are loving Houston!

I love it too - or I guess miss it. And did you know that the letters
HEB" initials are initials for Mr. Butts of the famous Butts family? Love it.
