Old Mexico 2008

So we got home from New Mexico with Jared's family on New Year's Day and three days later hopped on a plane to meet my family in "Old" Mexico for eight days on the beach - talk about an awesome holiday break! It was the most fun we've ever had.

My parents rented a house on the beach in Playa del Carmen for the week (actually my sister Melissa found it - our family travel pro!), but we had pretty much no clue about Mexico since we'd never been there. Little did we know that it is AWESOME! It was warm and the people were so nice, we did so many fun things and ate like it was going out of style.

I also took way too many pictures, shocker, so I'll do more than one post to save you from scrolling for days. When we got there we spent a couple days catching up on sleep and laying in the sun - heavenly. It was amazing how close the house was to the water, it was practically IN the water.

We met our cook for the week, Candelaria, and her husband Martin. They didn't speak a word of English so we quickly nominated Melissa to be our translator. Our spanish teacher from high school, the Ferg, would be quite ashamed of us I'm sure. But she brought a cookbook with pictures so we just did a lot of pointing and thumbs up. She made the best guacamole I've ever had in my life, I think it had crack in it or something. So we asked her to bring it every day! (she wrote down the recipe so I'll share later!)

A masseuse came and we got massages on the porch, she was so good that she came back at the end of the week too! It was the most relaxing thing ever. We got her card so Kellye and Sean can call her when they go on their honeymoon in June, so if any of you need a good masseuse on vacation I'll totally hook you up.

But the coolest thing from the whole trip were the monkeys! This lady in the market had little monkeys that you could hold and take pictures with for $5, SOLD! Their little hands are the cutest things and they are so friendly. I wanted to stuff one in my purse and take off running but I think it read my mind because just then it bit the tar out of my finger. Back to your home little guy!

To be continued....
