I like to laugh on Fridays...

Two of the funniest comedians - Demetri Martin and Brain Regan, check 'em out...

The Dora the Explorer part at the end of Brian Regan's is so funny.

And just since it's Friday we'll throw in a little Flight of the Conchords - hilarious!

We're headed to Houston for the weekend ... peace!

Office Makeover Part 2

Back in January I got my own office and it was so exciting. Nevermind that it was gray and halfway filled with filing cabinets - it was my own office! I was ecstatic. So my mom came up for a weekend and helped me de-gray it a little since I was struggling for inspiration and I forgot to post the before and after pictures, sorry! Thanks for all your help mom!

CAT DIARY

Day 983 of my captivity. My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets.

Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape.

In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow - but at the top of the stairs.

The other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is an idiot. I am convinced that the bird is an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe -- for now.

All Grown Up

When I met Jared five years ago his little sister Tiffany was just 12. She was so cute - she loved dressing up, the color pink, and anything sparkly. I remember sitting with her at their kitchen table looking through the JCPenney catalog picking out our favorite thing on each page, and being buried in bridal magazines together when we were tearing out pages for my wedding.

Now she's graduating high school and heading off to college next week. I think I've been in denial, I didn't realize how grown up she is until I looked at these pictures after taking them last weekend. Is she really all grown up!? And gorgeous to boot!

It was so much fun taking her senior pictures, she has so much personality and is so fun to be around. We love you Tiff! And we're going to miss you like crazy!!

Have a look

Jinky Art

When I'm feeling like I'm getting the hang of this photography thing all it takes is a visit to one of these photographer's sites to knock me back down to reality while not crushing my dreams completely. These are two of my favorite photographers who happen to both be Australian oddly enough - Barb Uli (Jinky Art) and Sheye Rosemeyer. They are absolutely the best at what they do, I love looking at their websites and wondering what it takes to make magic like that. Have a look, you'll love it!

Myers Family Fun

This weekend had to be some of the most delicious weather in a long time! Usually there is no transition from spring to summer in Texas but it seems this year we're getting a few really pretty days that aren't unbearably hot, exciting! So Saturday turned out to be the perfect day to take the Myers' family pictures, it was so much fun.

Check out all the pictures here if you'd like.

All Hail

So a couple weeks ago I did a post about my latest favorite find, Hollywood Fashion Tape. Who knew so many of us are annoyed with clothes that don't stay put!? Since then I've tried out a different brand of fashion tape called Bug Catcherz to see if I like one better than the other and I have to say that Bug Catcherz gets my vote, hands down!

Bug Catcherz has a lot of different products that solve the problems that "bug" us, here are my non-biazed reviews of the two that I tried.

The "No See 'ems Too" are adhesive strips similar to the Hollywood Fashion Tape strips but come in three different sizes. The smallest are the same size as HFT strips but have a stronger hold so you can restick if you need to move them. The two larger sizes are great for fixing hems (HFT strips did not hold my pant hems up both times I tried). I used to have jeans for flats and jeans for heels but now I use the largest size for tacking my jean hem up so I can wear them with either! Revolutionary!

But the greatest of all are the "No See 'ems" which I'm pretty sure were made just for me. They are designed to hold the gaps in between the buttons of button-down shirts shut. I have a love for button-down shirts but have always hated how they gap open, hallelujah! I gave some of these out to friends and they are all crazy about them. Love, love love.

They are a little more expensive than HFT but well worth the difference. I even cut the strips in half sometimes - since they are stronger you don't need a whole strip on each side of your top, a half will do. Overall, they just give you one less thing to worry about all day and who doesn't need that!?

10 years ago ..... I was 15 about to turn 16 and so excited about getting my sweet '96 Ford Explorer (forest green), it was the car of my dreams!

5 years ago .... I was a junior in college at Texas A&M taking summer school classes (accounting, bleh). Little did I know that the next semester I would meet my husband-to-be!

5 months ago .... we were just getting back in to the swing of things after two awesome Christmas trips, one to New Mexico with Jared's family and one to (old) Mexico with my family. We were a little spoiled, but it was so great to spend so much time with the people we love the most.

5 things on my to-do list today: be productive at work, mail off some Etsy orders, call about getting my tires re-aligned because my car is wobbly, check out swimsuits at Target, go to Christopher's with Jared for our end of the semester celebration dinner!

5 of my favorite snacks: cereal, apples, granola bars, chocolate chips melted in a cup (thanks Melissa!), and more cereal

5 places I've lived: (I've actually only lived in four places ever!)

  1. Tyler, Texas (born and raised)
  2. College Station, Texas
  3. Honesdale, Pennsylvania (taught tennis for a summer in college)
  4. Castiglion Fiorentiono, Italy (summer abroad in 2004)

5 things I would do if I were suddenly a billionaire:
  1. Travel like crazy.
  2. Buy a vacation home in Italy, Florence probably.
  3. Buy a house with an art/photography studio.
  4. Get a plane, and a pilot.
  5. Send my parents on a tour of Europe in my plane, they could stay at my house in Florence on one of their stops if they wanted.

5 things you don't know about me:

  1. I just got called to be the Beehive (12 yr. old girls) advisor at church and I'm SO excited!
  2. I get very nervous speaking in front of people.
  3. I had surgery 2 weeks after I was born because my throat wasn't connected to my stomach correctly, so I have a 3 inch scar on my stomach right under my bra line.
  4. I hate running, or jogging. HATE it!
  5. I love checking the mail with Jared when I get home from work.

Etsy mania

I've become really obsessed with Etsy these days. I love coming up with new designs, it's taken over my life! Here are some new ones:

I've also designed a few calling cards that are really fun. What are calling cards for? You keep them in your purse, car, diaper bag, whatever and they have your contact information (cell number, email address, mailing address - whatever you'd like!) on them. This way when someone asks you for your number or email address you can give them a cute little personalized card with everything on there instead of rummaging around the bottom of your purse for a pen! I gave these to my mom for Mother's Day:

Hotness

A couple weekends ago my sister, Kellye, and I went with my mom to pick out some glasses. We had way too much fun in there.

And I can't believe they still make and sell these kinds of glasses. We look like we could be Dunder Mifflin employees. Awesome.

Go Spurs Go

As much as Jared hates it, I am a Spurs fan. He is a die hard Mavs fan and will root for just about any other team except the Spurs, he HATES them. I'm not sure where the hatred comes from, but it's there alright. But he knew I was hard-headed when he married me so I don't intend on abandoning my team any time soon (love you babe!)

I really became converted 3 or 4 years ago watching the playoffs and have loved them ever since! I don't so much care for San Antonio the town, just the Spurs. I like the players (even Tim, the turtle, Duncan), the games, cheering for them with my sister Melissa, and of course winning championships. Kind of exciting.

I also have always thought Manu Ginobili was so good looking, in a Mediterranean kind of way. Then I found out he is not Greek or Italian, but Argentinian - oh well! I still think he's good looking! I think this is one of the main reasons Jared hates the Spurs so bad, he thinks Ginobili looks like a big goob with a bald spot. Now that I think about it, he does kind of look like Balki from Perfect Strangers.

Anyway, here's a copy of the valentine's day card I made Jared this year:

I'm a fan

When Jared planned a date night last weekend to go see Ironman I have to admit that I was less than thrilled. The only superhero movie I've ever been into was Batman Begins, so I figured this would be another ridiculous guy movie with way too many explosions and special effects. Yes, there were explosions and special effects but I have to say that I LOVED it! It was really entertaining and I really liked Robert Downey Jr., which I didn't think I would. Not to mention the soundtrack was pretty awesome.

After a movie drought the past few months I'm looking forward to some good ones coming out this summer, like these:

I am pale

You know, it's not so easy getting a tan when you work in an office during all daylight hours of the week. My pale self has learned this lesson the hard way. I actually scared myself the other day when I was looking especially pale I guess. So after doing thorough research (the sheer number of magazines I get each month garauntees the thorough-ness) and testing many different products I've come to the following conclusion: I love Neutrogena Sunfresh tanning foam.

Yes, love is a strong word and I really mean it, I love it. I don't do tanning beds because of the wierd smell that they have and because I don't want to look like a leather boot in 10 years, so I've tried various tanning lotions, sprays, and foams hoping that I can get a little color and not look like an Oompa-Loompa. Here are the ones I've tried and what I do/don't like about each one.

Winner: Neutrogena SunFresh Foam

Likes: Easy to put on and dries quickly (5 minutes), natural subtle color, minimal streaking, and most of all - not so smelly!
Dislikes: Still a little smelly, but it goes away after 30 minutes or so

Second Place: Neutrogena Spray Mist

Likes: Super quick and easy to put on, not so prone to streaking, good color
Dislikes: Smelly, like for days

Third Place: Banana Boat Selftanning Mist

Likes: Quick and easy to put on, realistic color, not streaky
Dislikes: Really smelly, don't let the "Fresh Citrus scent" promise fool you

Fourth Place: Dove Energy Glow Subtle Self Tanner (lotion)

Likes: It's Dove, and I like Dove because I think they're a good company
Dislikes: Smelly, tricky to put on without streaks (what I've found with most lotions), goes on really light the first time and by the third time you're like "What the?"

Dead Last: Mystic/Spray Tan

Likes: takes 5 minutes
Dislikes: and another 45 minutes later to scrub all the streaks off! Not natural looking, really smelly, costs a lot, always problems with hands/wrists and toes/ankles being streakified

(how funny is that picture, doesn't she know her hair is going to be disgusting!?)
